KSN Meteorologist Leon Smitherman is familiar to KSN viewers, having worked at KSN for more than a decade, Leon used his considerable meteorological background to contribute a unique perspective to the challenging Kansas weather.
Leon is also no stranger to forecasting and covering severe weather. He holds the TV Seals of Approval from both the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association, and a Certificate in Broadcast Meteorology from Mississippi State University. He has worked in broadcast meteorology since 1990, including time in Monroe, LA; Spokane, WA; San Diego, CA; and Raleigh, NC.
Leon knows what it’s like to cover big storms. He covered Hurricanes Floyd and Dennis while Chief Meteorologist for WRAZ-TV, the Fox affiliate in Raleigh, NC.
You can see Leon weekday mornings from 4:30-7 AM on Kansas Today. He’s our morning show Meteorologist and co-host.
Leon is an avid motorcycle rider and when he’s not tracking storms you’ll most likely find him out riding on a country road getting some “Wind Therapy”.
