Very few clouds today – the satellite is mostly picking up on the snow that’s left on the ground in Kansas and Nebraska!
With lots of sunshine, lighter winds, and slightly milder temperatures today, we will continue to work to melt all of that white stuff to the north.
The climbing temperatures this week will be nice, but there is a downside… Dry conditions persist particularly in the southwest, so we already have a *Fire Weather Watch* in place for the Oklahoma panhandle on Thursday when the winds will pick back up again. These fire danger concerns will be extending into southwest Kansas, too, so stay tuned.
Looking ahead to the month of February, unfortunately we aren’t seeing much relief for folks in the southwest. Overall, temperatures look to remain slightly above normal.
Also, precipitation is looking to stay slightly below normal. Things can certainly change in the coming weeks, but at this point in time, indications are that drought conditions will only worsen in southern Kansas and northern Oklahoma.
I’ll let you know how much warmer we’ll get this week and when we MIGHT see a little bit of rain, coming up on KSN News at Noon. Or you can watch our latest forecast video right here: http://ksn.com/2017/03/08/weather-forecast-discussion/
