WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Fire crews are responding to a two-alarm apartment fire in Wichita.

The fire is in the Shirkmere apartment building in the 200 block of N. Topeka. There is smoke coming from the roof of the building.

The fire was in the penthouse area of the apartment building. That part of the building is used for storage. No people inside of the building at the time were injured.

However, a Wichita firefighter did sustain injuries while responding to the fire. He has been taken to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries.

Streets have been blocked off near the building, and drivers should avoid the area.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

KSN has a crew on the scene and we will provide updates as they become available.
