Police investigating Saturday shooting in southeast Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – One man was shot at a pawn shop on the corner of E Pawnee and S Oliver Street Saturday.

The shooting happened around 1:00 p.m.

Authorities said a man acted as if he wanted to purchase a gun and moments later there was a struggle between the man and an employee of the shop after the man tried to leave the store with the gun. Officers said an employee fired a round at the man during the struggle and then the man fled from the store.

“He ran out of the store — and later showed up at an area hospital for treatment,” said Sgt. Brandon Lenzi with the Wichita Police Department. “We’re currently talking to all the witnesses and we’re currently attempting to talk to the suspect as well.”

The man is still in the hospital and is subject to questioning. He was the only one injured in the incident.

Police are investigating a shooting on S Oliver. According to authorities, one person has been shot.

The shooting happened in the 2300 block of S Oliver around 1:00 p.m.
