BUTLER COUNTY, Kan. (KSNW) – Thomas Torrez, 30, and Jasminie Ornelas, 26, were arrested on multiple charges in connection with the July 25 kidnapping and chase in Rose Hill.

Torrez has been charged with two counts of kidnapping, two counts of aggravated assault, three counts of possession of a firearm and one count of fleeing and eluding and reckless driving.

Ornelas has been charged with one count of kidnapping, two counts of aggravated assault, and one count of criminal threat.

Additional arrests have been made involving the kidnapping and chase in Rose Hill Tuesday morning.

According to WPD police officer Charley Davidson, multiple people were interviewed regarding the case.

A 30-year-old man was arrested for aggravated assault, kidnapping, felony traffic charges, felon in possession of a firearm and parole violations. A 26-year-old woman was arrested for aggravated assault and kidnapping.

The investigation also led to the arrest of a 25-year-old man charged for possession of narcotics. The names of the suspects have not yet been released.

“I just heard all the sirens, heard a band and that was it. There was a lot of banging and the sirens was going off,” said Ed Templin, a resident who lives just outside Rose Hill city limits.

Templin said after hearing a loud noise, he looked outside his house to see that a car just hit a tree in his front yard.

Officers arrested the 26-year-old woman who was a suspect. The 30-year-old suspect fled on foot.

“Well I saw they pulled someone, extracted someone out of the car,” says Templin. “And (asked officers) whether they needed some help and the officer yelled at me, get back in the house. Well I guess he ran right through the back yard there into the cornfield.”

Officers said they helped a woman in the car who had been taken against her will at the location of the hotel on Kellogg earlier in the morning. Davidson said she was treated at the hospital and then released. He also said this is not a random abduction.

Officers with Rose Hill, Wichita Police Department and the Butler County Sheriff’s Department knocked on doors to let people know there was a suspect on the loose in the area.

The suspect was caught without incident, and officers continued throughout the day to look for a weapon they believe the male suspect was carrying when he fled the crash site.

Davidson said the female victim of the kidnapping is 32 years old. Her name has not yet been released.

The investigation is still ongoing.

Officer Charley Davidson, Wichita Police Department, told KSN Tuesday that officers were dispatched to a disturbance at the English Village Inn in the 6700 block of East Kellogg at approximately 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.

A caller told police he witnessed a man and woman forcing a female victim into a grey Volkswagen at gunpoint.

Officers responding spotted the vehicle and when they tried to stop the car, the driver sped off and later crashed in the 200 block of West Rosewood in Rose Hill.

A female victim received injuries in the crash and was taken to an area hospital and was treated. She is being interviewed.

A 26-year old female suspect was taken into custody at the crash scene and a 30-year-old male suspect fled the scene and was captured in the 200 block of West Rosewood in Rose Hill.

The relationship between the suspects and victim is unknown at this time, according to Davidson. It is not known now if this was a random act.

Officer Davidson said it is still very early in the investigation. Suspects and victim are being interviewed at this time.
