Update: Victim in deadly shooting identified by police

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Wichita police identified the man who died after a shooting in northeast Wichita as 25-year-old Erick Vazquez. It happened just before 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the 3900 block of East 13th Street North.

“During the investigation, detectives learned the victim and his friend came to the strip mall to purchase cigarettes. The victim was waiting in his truck when two groups of unknown black males, one at the east end of the parking lot and west end pulled firearms and began firing at each other.” Lt Todd Ojile, Wichita Police Department. “It is believed the victim got caught in the crossfire and was not the intended target of this shooting.”

Police said Vazquez suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

Right now, police are still working to determine if the shooting was gang related. They have no suspects in custody.

Police said the shooting is the 19th homicide this year in the city of Wichita.
