Fire damages Butler County shooting range

EL DORADO, Kan. (KSNW) – Fire crews batted a fire at a Butler County business. It broke out early Friday afternoon in the 6400 block of SW Hunter Road. The business involved is Michael Murphy and Sons shooting range. The rural business sustained significant damage. The second floor was destroyed.

Crews said they have been busy fighting fires.

“The one we had earlier today, even running in what we call the short grass, the mowed front yard for instance, it is traveling as fast as we can drive at 30 miles an hour,” said Jim Schmidt, Butler County Emergency Management.

Extra crews were brought in to prevent the fire from spreading and to provide water to the area which does not have hydrants.
