Arkansas City police arrest suspect after standoff

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. (KSNW) — The Arkansas City Police Department arrested a suspect after a standoff late Monday night into early Tuesday morning.

Police identified him as 28-year-old Adrian Sotelo of Arkansas City. He was arrested on two counts of aggravated assault and one count of criminal possession of a firearm. He was transported to and booked into the Cowley County Jail in Winfield.

According to a news release, officers were dispatched at 11:30 p.m. Monday to 1311 South B Street for a report of a suspect who pulled a gun on two people and threatened to shoot them. One victim was man, and the other was a woman. The suspect then went to his home at 626 South C St. and barricaded himself inside with his mother. SWAT was called, and negotiations began with the suspect.

A command post was set up at the intersection of B Street and Madison Avenue. Negotiations continued from about 1 a.m. to 7:45 a.m., when the suspect finally surrendered to police at the scene. No one was injured during the incident and the standoff was resolved peacefully.
