WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Some Wichita students have taken the words Season of Giving to heart.

It’s an annual tradition at the Independent School for students to spend some time each December designing and creating warm blankets for local children in need.

On Thursday, the fifth graders delivered close to 50 blankets to the Wichita Children’s Home.

“It makes me and my classmates feel really happy and we’re happy to see that other children in need are smiling again, they’re warm for the winter,” said Samuel Kretsch, fifth grader.

Students in all grades at the Independent School participate in community service projects throughout the year.

Officials say this year’s senior class has put in more than 5,000 service hours.
