WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – In a little more than a month, Congress is expected to hold confirmation hearings for all of the people President-Elect Donald Trump has tapped for positions in his cabinet.
One of the announced nominations is Congressman Mike Pompeo for CIA director. The decision triggered a reaction.
Officials with Sedgwick County Democrats sent out an email Monday night, saying they had been asked to help provide background information on Pompeo for his upcoming confirmation hearing as head of the CIA.
They say quote, “We are looking for any information not easily found publicly. If you’ve contacted representative Pompeo and received a response on any issue, we’d like to see it.”
KSN reached out to the Sedgwick County Democrats to find out who asked them to look into this information and why.
While they refused to reveal who made the request to them, officials confirmed it went out on to their entire mailing list, and said it was simply to ensure that Pompeo was fully vetted, but they also said that a response like this hasn’t been seen here in the past.
“To my knowledge, we haven’t had anyone local, such as representative Pompeo who has been nominated for a position like this before. So, this is now something that routinely happens in this area,” said Jeff Wicks, Sedgwick County Democratic Party.
KSN reached out to Pompeo’s office as well as the statewide representation for Kansas Democrats for any reaction but neither office commented on the email.
Pompeo currently serves on the House Intelligence Committee, which oversees America’s intelligence-gathering efforts.
