Man sentenced to 31 years for shooting at Derby AT&T store

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – A Wichita man convicted of trying to kill a woman while he was robbing an AT&T store in Derby is going away for a long time.

On Friday, a judge sentenced James Phillips to 31 years in prison for the attack on Julie Dombo. The attack last year left her with severe injuries. She and her family got to address Phillips during Friday’s hearing – and he offered an apology.

“I don’t think anybody could be proud of that or not feel upset with yourself. As Ms. Dombo said best, I could have punched her, or I could have kicked her. I could have done all those other things,” said Phillips.

Phillips was found guilty of attempted murder in October.
