ANDOVER, Kan. (KSNW) – Andover Middle School this afternoon received a report of a bomb threat that had been written on a bathroom toilet dispenser.
The threat referenced a potential incident at Andover Middle School on Thursday, Dec. 8.
Andover Public Schools is taking the threat seriously, and in a statement, the district said they will not tolerate any activities that disrupt a safe school environment.
The district conducted a general sweep of the building. It was completed by teachers, maintenance/custodial and staff. A more in-depth sweep will follow.
School activities will carry on as usual on Thursday. The district said there will be an increased presence of security.
Here is the letter sent to parents:
The safety of our students is our main concern at Andover Public Schools. Because this is the case, we want to notify you that we received a report of a bomb threat that had been written on a bathroom toilet dispenser at Andover Middle School this afternoon. This threat referenced a potential incident at Andover Middle School on Thursday, Dec. 8. We take actions like this seriously, and will not tolerate any activities that disrupt a safe school environment for our students.
For the safety of our students and staff, a general sweep of the building completed by teachers, maintenance/custodial and staff. A more in depth sweep will follow as we continue to monitor the building.
We encourage you to talk to your student and ask if he or she may have information that would help us determine who wrote the threat. Should you hear of information that would be helpful in this regard, please contact the Andover Police Department at 316-733-5177. Please do not leave a message at your student’s school after 3:30 p.m. as this phone is not monitored 24/7.
School activities will carry on as usual and you should expect an increased presence of security tomorrow as our partners with the Andover Police Department join district and school security to provide additional safety measures on our campus.
