Drug deal leads to fatal shooting Friday night in south Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Wichita police are investigating after a drug transaction led to a deadly shooting Friday night.

Police say they were called out to the 3800 block of South Meridian around 11:30 p.m. Friday.

Police say when they arrived they found 45-year-old Michael Hamilton. He suffered two gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was taken to the hospital, where he died of his injuries.

“Throughout the investigation, it was revealed that two suspects went to the victim’s residence to make a drug transaction. While at the residence and during this transaction, a fight broke out, shots were fired inside the residence, and Michael Hamilton was struck twice,” said Lt. Jeff Gilmore, Wichita Police Department.

Officers arrested a 23-year-old Keeshaun W. Milo and a 27-year-old James A. R. Welborn on suspicion of first-degree murder. Both remain in the Sedgwick County Jail.

It is the 31st homicide in the city this year.
