NEW YORK (NBC) – The show business dreams of a young Dolly Parton begin to take shape in “Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love”, airing tonight on KSN.
The Parton family is caught in an unexpected winter storm, as Dolly’s father tries to raise enough money to buy his wife the wedding ring her could not afford.
Alyvia Alyn Lind once again plays the young Dolly in this sequel to last year’s hit “Coat of Many Colors”.
She’s hoping her musical skills can earn money to help her dad buy her mom a very special Christmas gift.
“It’s a story about sacrifice and what are the parents willing to do, Abby Lee and Lee, for the kids, and what are the kids ultimately willing to do so that their mom and dad have a nice Christmas,” says Rick Schroeder, who plays young Dolly’s father.
The story and the message may strike some as old-fashioned, but for those involved in the project, sentimentality never goes out of style.
“It’s supposed to be about love and forgiveness and tenderness,” Parton says.
“They just don’t make movies like this any more for network TV,” Schroeder adds. “This is an unusual production. It’s special.”
“Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love” airs at 8 p.m. on KSN.
Before that at 7 p.m., watch “Christmas in Rockefeller Center” with musicians Tony Bennett, Neil Diamond, Josh Groban, Tori Kelly, Sarah McLachlan, Dolly Parton, Jordan Smith, Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood.
