KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Seven people have been wounded in an extended shooting that was spread out across a few blocks in Kansas City.
Kansas City Police spokeswoman Stacy Graves said in a statement that officers were called to respond to a report of shots being fired about 2:20 a.m. Sunday in south Kansas City and arrived to see people shooting at each other. Graves said one officer opened fired due to safety reasons.
Police also heard ongoing gunfire and saw cars driving and firing at each other.
Six wounded people went to hospitals, and one person is in critical condition. A seventh person said he was shot by police and was treated for minor injuries.
Graves said the officer who fired the weapon is on administrative leave.
Graves also said people are being questioned. No charges have been filed.
