Fire displaces six people from southwest Wichita fourplex

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Six people are looking for a home after a fire destroyed their apartment.

Wichita fire crews were called out around 7:30 p.m Saturday to the 1900 block of East Indianapolis Street.

When they arrived, they found flames coming from an apartment complex, and rescue crews found a 61-year old man inside.

He suffered burns and smoke inhalation. No word on his condition at this hour.

“The husband went back to the bedroom and attempted to fight the fire. And when doing that, he got himself burned to the nose, the mouth area and some smoke inhalation,” said John Turner, Wichita Fire Battalion Chief.

Turner says the American Red Cross was sending assistance to the victims.

There is no word on what could have caused the fire.
