WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – While Thanksgiving is known as a family holiday, it’s also a day for giving back. That’s what the One Spark foundation did Wednesday, hoping to spread a little Thanksgiving cheer for many this holiday.
“You guys are going to have a good turkey day,” said David Hill with the One Spark Foundation. His goal is to bring a little holiday cheer to those who need it the most.
With $3,500 in hand, Hill was making sure everyone who came through the Save-A-Lot store off 13th and Grove got what they needed.
He said the idea to do this came to him when he was at that very store recently.
“Someone had an $11.31 bill and couldn’t pay for it, people were staring at her and she felt uncomfortable,” said Hill. “I reached over and handed my credit card. She started crying.”
Hill says many people were surprised he was there to help.
“If I pay for all of this, would you be willing to give me $10 or $15 to pay for somebody else’s stuff? Yeah!, it’s a deal,” Hill said.
For many, their only payment was a warm embrace.
