WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Wichita police said speed was a factor in a crash Wednesday afternoon near Central and West Streets. It happened around 4:30.

According to police, a 2000 Ford Explorer, driven by a 70-year-old man, was northbound on West Street and making a left hand turn into a parking lot. A 1996 Honda motorcycle heading southbound crashed into the side of the SUV. The 27-year-old man, the driver of the bike, was transported to the hospital with critical injuries. Police tell KSN News he is in stable condition. Numerous witnesses told police speed was a factor.

Police are pleading for drivers to slow down and not be distracted. So far this year, police said they have worked 23 fatality accidents in the city. Of those accidents, 24 people died. Nine of those accidents included motorcycles.
