BUTLER COUNTY, Kan. (KSNW) – Three fire departments battled a grass fire southwest of El Dorado. It happened at SW 60th and Purity Springs Road.
According to firefighters, the fire burned over 20 acres. Two homes were in danger, but fire crews were able to keep the fire from spreading.
Today, forecasters are warning of an “extremely critical” fire risk because of windy and dry weather.
The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma, says the risk is highest in parts of Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico and the Oklahoma and Texas panhandles. Areas could see wind gusts of 60 mph or more, while humidity levels will drop to 15 percent or lower.
The fire risk should drop as a cold front moves through the area Friday.
