WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) –  Wichita police said a suspect was shot with his own gun after forcing his way into a south Wichita home. It happened in the 1400 block of East Morris Monday night around 11.

Police said a 39-year-old homeowner and his girlfriend heard a knock on the front door. When they answered, a man forced his way into the home armed with a handgun.

The homeowner and the suspect wrestled. The homeowner got control of the suspect’s gun and fired at him multiple times. Shortly after, police arrived.

“Upon arrival, investigators found a 30-year-old male outside the home with multi gunshot wounds. He is in critical condition,” said Lt. Todd Ojile, Wichita Police Department.

Ojile said the homeowner and the robbery suspect had known each other for about a year.
