Garden City student to perform in Carnegie Hall

Baylee Almos practices one of her audition pieces

GARDEN CITY, Kan. (KSNW) – A Garden City High School senior was thrilled to find out she earned a place in the National Youth Choir and will get to perform in New York City next year.

It’s a passion that’s driven Baylee Almos since the 5th grade.

“I like singing with others,” she said. “It’s fun to share with others the love of music and make music together.”

Now that passion has earned her a spot in the national youth choir and a performance in Carnegie Hall in New York City this February.

“I was really excited,” she said about hearing the good news. “I’ve never been to New York before.”

2,500 young singers from around the world auditioned a spot in the choir but the honor only goes to 200 students.

She says she’s excited to see New York for the first time and perform in one of the world’s most prestigious music venues.

“We’re going to see a Broadway play, and I’m really excited to see that, because I’m into theatre, and just to perform in Carnegie Hall is pretty awesome.”

Baylee says when she was in the fifth grade, she saw an older student had gotten in to the National Youth Choir. That inspired her to begin singing.
