WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – A child hit by a truck in east Wichita Friday afternoon is in critical condition police say.

The accident occurred on E. Central Avenue between North Hydraulic and North Pennsylvania at about 4:50 p.m. That’s near Washington Accelerated Learning Elementary School.

A USD 259 spokesperson says the victim is a student at Washington.

Police say a 9-year-old girl was trying to cross Central in the middle of the block. They say a truck slowed down for her, but a second truck’s view of her was blocked and the truck hit her.
