WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Wichita police released new information in multiple stabbings that left a 6-year-old girl dead, her 4-year-old sister and her 24-year-old mother in critical condition. Police arrested 47-year-old Hassan Wright near 55th St. South and Broadway around 9:30 a.m. He was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail for one count of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted first-degree murder. and three counts of aggravated kidnapping. Wright has had prior convictions. He is the uncle of the 24-year-old woman.

Police said Antonio J. Ray was a person of interest and admit that was a mistake. Ray is the father of the 4-year-old girl and the boyfriend of the 24-year-old woman.

“While we needed to locate Mr. Ray, characterizing him as a suspect was done in error. Mr. Ray was located through his employer. He was at work in Oklahoma and is not a suspect in this homicide,” said Lt. Todd Ojile, Wichita Police Department.

Police said the victims were found at two locations. The first location was at the Parklane Shopping Center. Officers and EMS arrived around 6:30 a.m. and found the 24-year-old woman and the 6-year-old girl in the red Jeep with multiple stab wounds. The woman was transported to the hospital, and the 6-year-old died of stab wounds. KSN News has confirmed the 6-year-old girl was student in Wichita Public Schools. An employee arriving for work at Parklane found the woman and child.

“An employee at one of the businesses found that a red Jeep had crashed into a van that was parked overnight in the parking lot. The mini van was unoccupied,” said Sgt. Nikki Woodrow, Wichita Police Department.

“We know it (Jeep) was brought back in town. At this time, we believe Mr. Wright drove it back in here. At one time, he exited the vehicle and the 24-year-old female we believe got in the driver’s seat, drove a very short distance and crashed,” said Ojile.

At 8:30 a.m., police said a second child, a 4-year-old girl, was found at 77th and Ridge Road with stab wounds. She was found in a field by employees of Mid-State Sand Company. She was taken to the hospital and underwent surgery. She is still in critical condition.

“Through the investigation, it appears at the scene where this all started was at the 8000 block of West 77th Street North. We are still processing that. We will probably be out there through the end of the day and through tomorrow. We are still conducting interviews, still processing other scenes at this time,” said Ojile.

Investigators released a photo of Wright. A short time later someone called police about where to find him. He was arrested at 55th South and Broadway. According to a witness, police pulled over a silver Sedan with Wright.

“It was a very dramatic scene. I’m just glad that our fine officers with the Wichita Police Department were on the scene keeping our streets safe,” said Aaron Meade, witness.

Police have not released a possible motive. They have not released the names of the victims. The investigation continues.

“Obviously, we have not been able to talk to the 24-year-old or the child,” said Ojile. “This has been a fast rapidly involving investigation. We moved extremely quickly on this trying to locate the suspects due to the nature.”
