Wichita Animal Shelter closed due to blown transformer

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – The Wichita Animal Shelter was closed Sunday due to a blown transformer.

Dispatchers tell us the the shelter was evacuated Sunday morning around 8:45 a.m. for a possible electrical fire.

The Wichita Police Department later put out a statement on their social media that the shelter would be closed due to a transformer blowing.

No animals or employees were harmed during the incident. Police say animals will continue to receive care while Westar works to restore power.

The shelter is expected to reopen tomorrow.
