WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office has requested the assistance of the FBI in the ongoing investigation of fraud.
On Tuesday afternoon around 5 p.m., the sheriff was notified the Sedgwick County government was the victim of fraudulent activity with a resulting loss of approximately $566,000.
Officials said the fraudulent activity took place sometime between September 23 and October 25. They would not say if it was an inside job or the work of an outside party.
The sheriff’s office also would not say what department or departments were involved in the incident.
“The detectives will investigate it as a crime and what that means, they will go wherever the information takes them that they discover,” said Sedgwick County Lt. Lin Dehning.
Due to the ongoing investigation, no additional information is available at this time.
