Wichita teachers approve proposed contract

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Wichita teachers have approved a proposed contract agreement between the United Teachers of Wichita and the USD 259 Board of Education.

The agreement was approved by a 79 percent to a 21 percent margin. Nearly, 2929 votes were cast, with 2329 voting to accept and 601 voting to reject the contract.

The Wichita school board will vote on the contract at their meeting Monday.

The United Teachers of Wichita said the contract was not good for teachers, but they believe it was the best they could get considering the financial issues facing schools. The union said negotiations next spring will be very different.
