WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – The new Southeast High School opened back in August, and now, the city is working on fixing the traffic problem in the area.
The school is located on 127th Street East just south of Pawnee.
CIty officials said they conducted traffic counts of the roads that feed into the school before and after it opened.
They used that information to determine what’s the best way to use taxpayer dollars and fix the traffic issues.
A four-way stop will be put in at Pawnee and 127th Street and Harry and 127th Street. It is expected to be complete by November.
A stop light will be placed at the intersection of Harry and 143rd by the end of the year.
“It’s us working together to do the right thing at the right time and expense and everything else,” said Pete Meitzner, Wichita City Council member.
The city and county will evaluate these changes to see if more traffic enforcement may be needed.
