WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Authorities are investigating a fatal crash involving a car and a motorcycle.

It happened around 1:45 p.m. Thursday afternoon near 21st Street and North Shore Drive, near Sedgwick County Park.

According to Wichita Police, a motorcycle was heading westbound. The car was making a left-hand turn, to go north, when they collided. The 19-year-old motorcyclist, identified as Layton Means, died.

Police are investigating speed as a factor.

“That’s what we’re investigating as to whether she saw the motorcycle or if the motorcycle was traveling too fast and she just couldn’t turn in front,” said Sgt. Troy Nedbalek, Wichita Police Department.

The woman in the car was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Officials said there was significant damage to the passenger side of her vehicle.

So far in 2016, there have been 19 fatal accidents in Wichita resulting in 20 fatalities. Seven of those accidents involved motorcycles.
