What is your plan to deal with the Kansas Budget?

My plan includes restoration of lost tax revenue from the 2012 tax policy by repealing the LLC exemptions. I would seek to implement a fair tax policy and review how agency funding is allocated. The KDOT fund is used routinely to fund other budget line items. I would seek to stop this practice as a remedy for shortfalls. I would also seek a return to a more conservative fiscal policy where debt is minimized to fund state operations.

What kind of changes do you support in rewriting the school funding formula? Do you support additional funding for Kansas schools?

I would seek to continue an equitable means for allocating funding to Kansas school districts. I believe in a tiered system that would evaluate the profiles of 1A through 6A districts. The 1992 formula has components that should be included in the new formula.

Yes, I would support additional school funding with a review of how funds are allocated.

What is your number one priority for the upcoming legislative session and how do you plan to address it?

There are several priorities. First, I would seek to interact with my new colleagues and develop working relationships. We may be of different political philosophies and/or different parties but we are all Kansans. Second, I will strive to fix the budget by working to find revenue and establish a fair tax structure.
