What is your plan to deal with the Kansas Budget?
For starters, repeal disastrous tax policies put in place by Brownback and his legislature, like the LLC tax loophole exemption. Companies like Amazon and Chrysler are LLC’s and they should pay taxes. I agree we don’t want oppressive tax policy that smothers new business or growth, but these exemptions are costing the State a quarter of a billion dollars and the majority of Kansans know Brownback’s policy has failed.
What kind of changes do you support in rewriting the school funding formula? Do you support additional funding for Kansas schools?
The current block grant funding formula has been found unconstitutional, meanwhile the old formula worked. The subsequent attempted education formula “rewrite” is nothing more than an attack on education and future generations of Kansans by Brownback and his legislature. Worse, they are doubling down on trying to force these horrendous policies on Kansas.
Brownback has done more to hurt education than any other Kansan in history due to his drastic cuts and lack of vision. He has even used the legislature to change the law to drastically reduce the minimum amount of funding per student required by law, in 2013. In short, funding must be restored because education is critical.
What is your number one priority for the upcoming legislative session and how do you plan to address it?
Reversing the failure of Brownback and his legislature is the prime directive. It is critical to help the Republican lawmakers stand up to these failed policies being imposed on Kansans by their top elected official. Republicans who oppose Brownback have historically been targeted in subsequent primary elections for removal, but if they stand together we can unite as one, and Take Back Kansas.
