9:50PM Hope you enjoyed that blast of summer because real October is marching across Kansas this evening. Not saying it is going to be Arctic–but it most certainly will be quite a bit cooler than the record setting heat we had today (see just below). 8:31PM What an incredible summery afternoon! Records set all over the place–here is a summary:
Wichita 91 (90, 1991) This also ties for 2nd warmest reading this late in the year. The record for late heat is 92 on 20 October 1979.
Russell 94 (90, 1991)
Salina 91 (89, 1991)
Dodge City 101 (94, 1926)
Garden City 100 (94, 1991)
This is the first time in 142 years of records that Dodge City and Garden City have both reached triple digits in the month of October! And these appear to be the latest triple digits ever recorded in the entire state of Kansas!
5:51PM Crazy turn of events today–record setting heat in a number of places. In fact, Wichita’s high of 91 is not only a new record for today, it is also the 2nd warmest reading this late in the year–ever! The record is 92 on 20 October 1979–not that far away! But now our heat wave is over. We’ll track the changes on KSN News at 6, or catch up here on KSN.com.
4:51PM The little heat wave we have been enjoying (even today?) is over after today. Much cooler air–“real” October is poised to move across the rest of Kansas in the coming couple days. Join us to track the dramatic changes on KSN News at 5, or anytime here on KSN.com.
4:20PM Record heat in Kansas today–including Wichita! Wichita hit 91 (so far), breaking the old record of 90 from 1991. Other records of note including 101 in Dodge City, breaking 94 in 1926. That will be the last ridiculously warm day for a while–as you can see in your forecast here on KSN.com.
12:20PM Another summer-like day with record high temperatures likely. Cooler, not cold air will move in late tonight into tomorrow, dropping our highs into the 70s. Enjoy!
10:33AM Heating fast all ready! You can tell where our next cold front is this morning. Slow warm up for those in Northwest Kansas with lighter winds expected.
6:30AM Here’s a look at what we’re tracking today!!
4:30AM Another hot and windy day today. Record high temperatures are possible across much of Central and SW Kansas. A more Fall like forecast is in store for the KSN viewing area tomorrow.
