What is your plan to deal with the Kansas Budget?

Upon beginning of the 2017 Session of the Kansas House of Representatives I will be working along with colleagues in establishing a comprehensive tax plan. We need to right the ship and get Kansas back on a stable financial plain.
We must look at all revenue streams and at the same time keeping our expenses at the lowest possible level. Keep in mind while doing this we must maintain adequate funding for our schools.

What kind of changes do you support in rewriting the school funding formula? Do you support additional funding for Kansas schools?

I was happy to hear that the Governor sees the importance of visiting with and inviting
education experts to the planning table of a new funding formula.
We must keep a vigilant watch on the progress to assure that an adequate funding formula is in fact the end result.
I have supported the need for change in the funding of schools since my first term as a Representative.

What is your number one priority for the upcoming legislative session and how do you plan to address it?

Education for our kids. They are the future. I believe that if parents wish to home school or put their children into private schools it is certainly their choice. However it should not be paid for by taxpayers dollars.
Article 6 of the Kansas Constitution requires that there be adequate funding for public education. We need to assure our families of school age children that Kansas will live up to that requirement.
Providing for a budget that will eliminate the taking of funds from the underserved (seniors and early childhood development) , KDOT and other Kansas programs.
