What is your plan to deal with the Kansas Budget?

Revenue must balance fiscal mandates. We must develop a comprehensive tax plan that has everyone’s skin in the game while being mindful of our necessity for growth. We must close loopholes and realign tax exemptions. We must review licensing and fees. We must seek cost reductions through efficiency and elimination of redundancies.

What kind of changes do you support in rewriting the school funding formula? Do you support additional funding for Kansas schools?

I look forward to the rigorous process of the required new school formula in 2017 and believe it will address any inequities. There are many who have been preparing new approaches as well as reformulating/revising the old school finance formula. As a new legislator I plan to study these offerings while they are being discussed in committee and communicate with all our District’s superintendents to fully understand the implications of the proposed formulas. With their valuable knowledge and assistance I will be better prepared to vote accordingly.

What is your number one priority for the upcoming legislative session and how do you plan to address it?

Minimize partisanship. I seek election to bring a more balanced, just and safe government to our state. I seek to restore civil discourse while upholding our constitutional duty. I will seek confidence with those who wish to bring moderation in view and application to our state’s legislature.
