Update: Suspect arrested after running over man in southeast Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Wichita police said a 38-year-old suspect is in custody after running over a man in a southeast Wichita parking lot.

It happened around 5:00 a.m. Thursday morning in the 3200 block of East Osie near the McDonald’s, Dog and Shake, and a bar called The Store.

According to arrest records, the suspect is John A. Greer. He was booked into jail for attempted first-degree murder, aggravated arson, and flee and elude.

When officers arrived, police found a 32-year-old man suffering from injuries after being run over; his SUV was also on fire.

Police said the suspect, left the scene in a truck. Police chased him for six minutes before he crashed his truck at Kellogg and Armour Road.

Greer and the victim were both taken to the hospital. The victim suffered critical injuries. Greer was treated and arrested.

“During the investigation, it showed the suspect had driven his vehicle into a building at that location and also had driven over a victim multiple times,” said Sgt. Nikki Woodrow, Wichita Police Department.

Right now, police are still trying to determine what went on.

“We are investigating what happened and what led up to this incident,” said Sgt. Woodrow.

The westbound lanes of Kellogg from Webb to Armour Road were closed during rush hour as crews investigated the crash. The lanes have since reopened.

The front wall of The Store was heavily damaged after being hit by the truck. There was also a fire reported there.
