BEL AIRE, Kan. (KSNW) – On Monday, All Seasons Construction announced the winner of a free roof.
KSN was there when the Bel Aire resident first learned he won. It started with a group of neighbors supporting one of their own.
“There’s just no words to express how grateful I am,” said Jaimee Parks.
It’s all because he supported them first.
“My father started suffering from a heart condition about two and a half years ago and anything dad needed from lawn mowing to help with the garden, Jammie was always there,” said Chris Tyson, one of Parks’ neighbors.
Now, it’s coming full circle, after Parks was nominated and picked to win a free roof.
“Mother Nature was just doing its little thing and I was getting pretty desperate,” Parks said about his roof.
Last year, All Seasons Construction teamed up with the organization No Roof Left Behind.
The company has been locally owned for 25 years but they say it’s not just where they work.
“It’s also where we live and play,” said Steve Hundt, with All Seasons Construction. “We really love the community and we wanted the opportunity to be able to give back and roofing is one thing that is very difficult to sleep at night and be comfortable in your home when you have leaking issues and problems.”
The idea is to donate a roof to a deserving neighbor in need.
This year, 30 contestants narrowed down to four finalists and finally to Parks.
“I spent my money on kids and people,” Parks said. “You know, I grew up in the country and just enjoy helping people. No one had money we just helped people.”
That’s something his neighbors say he lives by.
“If I try to pay him back for parts even, he won’t take it,” Tyson said. “Jammie has always been there for us.”
Over the next few weeks, All Seasons Construction will work on Parks’ new roof.
On Friday, Oct. 14, they’ll throw him a block party so his family, friends and neighbors can all celebrate together.
“It’s just amazing,” Parks said. “I want to thank everybody.”
