WSU sends out safety alert after man approaches women offering massages

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Wichita State University Police are investigating two incidents of suspicious activity involving two students being approached by an unknown man wanting to practice his massage techniques.

One incident happened Saturday afternoon. The woman reported she was seated in the top floor area of the Ablah Library when she was approached by an unknown man. The man said he was studying massage therapy and asked if he could practice on her. Wanting to help a fellow student, she agreed and allowed him to massage her feet. She became uncomfortable and asked him to stop and get away from her, after which he moved away and went to another part of the library.

While investigating this incident, a prior incident was identified as possibly being the same suspect. This incident occurred on Sept. 11 at approximately 8 p.m.. A woman said she was on the second floor of the Ablah Library when she was approached by an unknown man who asked to practice massage on her. The student told him “no” and after some additional comments, he left the library. There was no physical contact in this incident.

The students weren’t harmed in both incidents.

The suspect is a man in mid 20’s, with messy reddish blond or red hair. He is approximately 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs approximately 130 to 150 pounds. He was wearing a blue t-shirt, black shorts with a white stripe down the side, and gray shoes.
