ASHLAND CITY, Tenn. (WSMV) – A Tennessee school counselor is being hailed as a hero after talking an armed student at Ashland City’s Sycamore Middle School out of shooting other students and teachers.
Molly Hudgens spoke with the 14-year-old student for about 45 minutes before he gave her his loaded gun.
“She was an amazingly brave person to be in there that long with this young man,” said Cheatham County Sheriff Mike Breedlove at a press conference on Thursday. “She was able to diffuse the whole situation.”
Breedlove said the student entered the school on Wednesday morning and went to the counselor’s office.
Hudgens and the student began talking. She asked him if he had a gun, and he showed her the gun in his waistband.
