GODDARD, Kan. (KSNW) – A school in Goddard was named as a National Blue Ribbon School on Wednesday. It makes it one of the best in the nation.
Students and staff at Challenger Intermediate School gathered for the surprise announcement.
The designation is special because only two other public schools in Kansas were chosen.
Challenger was nominated by the Kansas Department of Education, and one teacher says their students excel because no one gives up on them.
“When the scores come out and we test the kids, we don’t lower the standards, we keep the standards up there, and our goal is to get the kids up there. We don’t try to bring the standard down to where we are. We try to bring the kids back up,” said Jim Lester, science teacher.
Teacher’s also said that host a lot of events to make sure that families are included in their student’s learning experience.
