ANDOVER, Kan. (KSNW) – A vehicle trying to enter the Kansas Turnpike after stopping along the side of the road led to the death of a Shawnee woman Wednesday afternoon.

Kansas Turnpike troopers report a 2002 Saturn Vue was on the right shoulder of the southbound lanes of the turnpike shortly after 12:30 p.m. when the driver pulled out into traffic and was struck from behind by a semi-tractor trailer hauling rocks.  According to the crash report, both vehicles ended up in the right ditch following the crash.

KTA identified the driver as 50-year-old Luvenia Bovi Lewis of Shawnee.  A 41-year-old Wichita man driving the truck was not injured in the crash.

Troopers said both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
