WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Wichita police are investigating a home invasion in Riverside. It happened around 8:30 a.m. in the 800 block of Gilman.
Authorities tell KSN News several people broke into a home.
Cindy Galstead was returning home from the community garden when she noticed something that caught her attention.
“I happened to glance out into the alley and I saw what I thought was two guys with hoodies, and one had a mask on, and I didn’t, they didn’t, it didn’t look right,” said Galstead.
Galstead said she watched as two of the suspect open a gate and go up to the back door of house.
She says it was enough of a concern for her to call police.
“I grabbed my phone and dialed 911 and just described what was going on to them,” said Galstead.
Police arrived to the burglary call and surrounded the home.
Lt. Lem Moore with the Wichita Police Department says a 23-year-old was taken into custody that police found sitting in a red car in the alley. Three police K-9s were deployed to assist the officers in getting the people into custody. Two people were found in the attic of the home.
“Very good job by the community by simply calling 911 and everyone staying inside of their homes while we were able to go thru our process,” said Lt. Lem Moore.
Galstead says she doesn’t know the homeowner whose house was broken into, but says the neighborhood is a tight-knit group.
“This is a great neighborhood, I’ve been in this house in this neighborhood for 32 years now so it’s yes, we’re all really close we know a lot,” said Galstead.
Galstead says many residents here are active in the Riverside Neighborhood Facebook page.
Several neighbors had been posting about burglaries in the area, helping to keep the neighbors alert.
