WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Wichita police said a suspicious device was discovered Monday in south Wichita. It happened around 12:30 p.m. in the 900 block of West Harry outside of Spec Building Materials Corporation.

Officers said the 42-year-old man returned from lunch and found a white object against a fence.

The Wichita Police Department Bomb Squad responded and safely detonated the device. There were no injuries.

Police said the device was a six-inch PVC pipe with end caps on it. Inside the pipe, there was a battery and wiring.

“I can’t speculate as to what the device was. Our bomb squad obviously detonated it safely, and they will continue to evaluate what that device was and continue to look at it further,” Wichita Police Officer Charley Davidson.

Police said if you see a suspicious device always call 911 and never go near it.

Right now, police are looking to see if surveillance video is available to see who placed the device there.
