Campaign season enters final stretch

WASHINGTON (NBC News) – The presidential candidates kick off on the first official day of the fall campaign season with stops in several states Tuesday.

Donald Trump heads to Virginia and North Carolina, still explaining immigration and defending his laid-back debate preparation. There’s no cramming and no mock debates.

“I’ve seen people do so much prep work that when they get out there they can’t speak,” Trump has said.

Hillary Clinton has talked so much she’s losing her voice but still criticizing Trump for getting into a Twitter war with Mexico’s president.

“He managed to turn his trip to Mexico into an embarrassing international incident,” Clinton told supporters.

She’ll be in Florida Tuesday, while sending her surrogates to other battleground states.
