Suspect arrested in fatal Liberal shooting

LIBERAL, Kan. (KSNW) – Liberal police have one suspect in custody after a shooting that left one person dead and another injured. It happened in the 500 block of East Pancake around 11:15 a.m. Saturday.

According to a press release on the Liberal Police Department’s Facebook page, emergency responders found a 24-year-old male and a 20-year-old male who had been shot. The 24-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. The 20-year-old was treated and released from a local hospital.

Witnesses told police that an argument between multiple people had taken place in that location when the shooting happened. They were able to provide police with a suspect and vehicle descriptions.

Officers located the 23-year-old male suspect around 5:20 p.m. at a rural residence in Seward County. He was taken into custody without incident. Formal charges have not yet been filed.

The names of the victims and the suspects have not yet been released.

The Seward County Sheriff’s office and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation are currently investigating the case. Anyone with information is asked to call the Liberal Police Department.
