Dog rescued, resuscitated by fire department

HAYS, Kan. (KSNW) – Fire crews rescued a family dog from a building fire Sunday afternoon. The fire broke out in Hays around 3:30 p.m. in the 300 block of East 14th Street.

The City of Hays Fire Department, Ellis County EMS, and the Hays Police Department responded to the scene.

According to a press release, firefighters fought a fire in the basement of a duplex. An unconscious dog was found inside the smoke-filled first floor. Using animal oxygen support, firefighters were able to resuscitate the dog.

The dog was taken to a nearby veterinary hospital and was last reported to be in good condition.

Investigators were still trying to determine the cause of the fire.
