LEXINGTON, Ky. (WLEX) – A Kentucky man is in jail after officials say he fed methamphetamine to two dogs.
According to an arrest citation, Benjamin Burdette was arrested after a dog was seized from his Laurel County residence Tuesday afternoon. A caller told dispatch that the dog appeared to be having a seizure in the front yard. Animal control took the dog to Cumberland Valley Animal Hospital where the canine had to be euthanized.
A toxicology report showed the dog tested positive for amphetamines.
Upon further research, deputies learned that another dog had been taken from the residence the night before and also tested positive for the drug.
When confronted, Burdette admitted to feeding the dogs meth. A 2-year-old child was also removed from the home by social services. She will be tested for amphetamines as well.
