ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. (KSNW) – A man is dead after a canoeing accident near Arkansas City. It happened around 6:20 p.m. Saturday in the area of 296th and 101st.

According to Ark City EMS Captain Jeff Sampson, a group of about ten or eleven people were kayaking and canoeing, when one of the boats tipped over.

Capt. Sampson said they aren’t sure what caused the canoe to tip over.

Several people who fell out of the canoe were able to make it onto a log jam in the middle of the river. One of the men was pulled out of the water after he couldn’t get onto the log jam.

The boaters attempted CPR but were unable to revive him.

The man, identified as 60-year-old Eddie D. Zink of Arkansas City, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other boaters were evaluated by EMS but were not injured.
