WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Maybe it was a teacher or a coach or a youth leader at church, but many of us had role models growing up that helped mold us into the people we are today. Big Brothers Big Sisters has spent decades helping to form those bonds. In this month’s Give a Little, we introduce you to another young guy who’s ready for that kind of friendship.
Ten-year-old Ethan is a budding soccer star, but he’s looking to grow the team around him… both on and off the field.
“I’d get a Big Brother because I don’t really get to see my dad,” he told us.
He’s looking for someone to spend a little guy time with.
“I’d like to go fishing, go to Urban Air, go swimming,” he suggested.
Or like we did one evening, play soccer. Ethan’s favorite position is goalie, so naturally I had to challenge him to a contest. I managed just one goal in five shots.
But little did I know, this brick wall with legs is also pretty good at offense. He scored four times in his five attempts.
I was glad when our water break finally arrived so I could avoid any more embarrassment and get to know Ethan a little better. I asked him how his friends would describe him.
“That he tries to be funny, and he’s really smart,” he said.
He then rattled off his multiplication tables without batting an eye. So as you can see, he’s got it all… except a Big Brother. And even though Ethan excels at blocking goals, your time together could help him reach all of his.
