Wichita boxer Nico Hernandez advances to semifinals, guaranteed medal

RIO DE JANEIRO (KSNW) – Wichita’s Nico Hernandez beat Ecuador’s Carlos Quipo Wednesday. He is guaranteed at least a bronze medal.

Hernandez moved to 3-0 with a tight unanimous decision victory over Ecuador’s Carlos Quipo.

Hernandez will face Hasanboy Dusmatov of Uzbekistan on Friday at 10:15 a.m.  You can watch his match Friday by clicking here.

Hernandez pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the Olympics’ on Monday with a unanimous decision over Russian Vasilii Egorov.

It will be the first boxing medal the U.S. has won since the Beijing games in 2008.
