ANDOVER, Kan. (KSNW) – Candidates for Butler County Sheriff, Clerk and Treasurer took part in a forum Thursday night in Andover. The forum was sponsored by the Andover Chamber of Commerce and the Butler County Farm Bureau.
About 100 people showed up to hear the candidates positions on a variety of issues, and ask questions through the forum moderator.
The Butler County Sheriff’s race has become heated lately with three GOP candidates trying to unseat Republican incumbent Sheriff Kelly Herzet.
Among the topics discussed were concerns about the pay levels of sheriff’s deputies, deputy retention, the safety of the county jail and the ability of deputies to deal with mentally ill individuals when responding to calls.
Unlike a forum almost two weeks ago there were no protesters at Thursday night’s event.
