LOS ANGELES (AP) – Federal authorities say a Southern California man has been arrested on espionage charges for allegedly attempting to sell sensitive information used in military and commercial satellites to the Russians.
FBI agents arrested Gregory Allen Justice on Thursday. On Friday, a judge ordered him held without bail pending trial.
Authorities say Justice provided an undercover FBI agent he thought was a Russian spy with proprietary software technology and other information for use in satellites.
According to court documents, he was paid between $500 and $1,000 during each of several meetings earlier this year.
Authorities say the 49-year-old engineer, who worked for a defense contractor, explained he needed money to provide for his wife’s medical problems.
An attorney for Justice could not immediately be found, and his phone number has been disconnected.
